Catherine Harry – Contemporary Artist

Catherine lives in Sydney where she pursues her career as a painter and tutor. Her primary art practice focuses on the visual world around her in all it’s forms. The Australian landscape, coastlines and Harbour are a constant source of inspiration.
She has been exhibiting professionally in Sydney's commercial galleries and art shows for the past 25 years.
Catherine studied at the National Art School in Sydney from 1969-1974. Later, she extended her studies at UTS and Charles Sturt University at Bathurst. After graduation she was involved in teaching creative arts at T.A.F.E. and High Schools.
Part of her own development in the visual arts culture has been study at the Julian Ashton Art School, as well as travelling overseas studying traditional art practices in Europe, U.S.A. and South East Asia.
In 2008 and 2010 she travelled to France and Italy for 3 months to paint and sketch on site the landscapes of some of the world’s great artists. After returning to Sydney, she had successful solo shows based on “Journey” and travelling through the landscape.
She is an Associate Member of the Royal Art Society and became elected as a member of the council in 2010. Although much of Catherine's formal study has exclusively concentrated on oils, her continually developing personal style in the visual arts has embraced the fluent and immediate effects of water based medium.
Catherine describes her own artistic style as contemporary realist and much of her work subscribes to this notion. Her paintings contain her own unique representation of forms of line, pattern and colour.
